I can confirm this; one of my technicians from back '94-95 got into Harvard SoM and UMAB SoM, maybe a couple more, waitlisted at a couple, and rejected at the rest (I recall he applied to about 18, got interviews at half or a little more), I I wrote his primary support letter of recommendation. I also told him to go for an MD instead of a PhD and I told him why. He made a wise move.
