Straydog The paragraph above states that "Not surprisingly the US feels affinity to India. Exactly the same happens here. From the resent economic figures: despite economic upturn it does not propagate in labor mbuttes" Im saying that the economies of India and US are different in nature -and drawing comparisons between the 2 as old pif has done is like drawing comparisons between apples and oranges. In India -economic upturn of the industrial-services sector does not propagate to the mbuttes because unlike the US, the bulk of the population does NOT depend on the industrial-services sector. The lives of the mbuttes in India are dictated by the monsoon weather system and-or the distribution of river waters via canals or agri-credit -and not by industrial activity.

India refused all possible intl aid and mobilized its own armed forces to rescue people. The countries that were worse affected were sri lanka, indonesia and thailand. Thailand is relatively prosperous -but the other 2 aren't and all 3 have smaller economies-geographies compared to India. The breadth of the country provides an insulation against calamities. (eg if United States was made up of only the Lousiana purchase -it would have been a devasted country by now -but the breadth of the country means people can go settle elsewhere and-or the economies of other regions of the country provide backup support to the country in the face of the disaster).
