Wow, I don't really like any of those options. Normally, I'd say definitely go with the midwifery care (I suspect that your husband would quickly come around after talking to the midwives and finding out they're not some fruitloopy airheaded creatures, but quite well educated and experienced regarding childbirth). Still, 45 minutes away is a royal pain. I chose a practice for my last that was an hour away because they were the only midwives around that did homebirths, but they had to come to me for the birth rather than vice versa ;-) It seems silly to switch away from a practice you like because of this one yahoo, but on the other hand, going into labor on his watch sounds completely unacceptable. One thing I do believe is that I went into labor with my babes when the care providers I really trusted were on call. I don't think that's a complete accident. I think at some level I knew when it was safe to go into labor, and that's when I did. I suppose there are no guarantees that it would happen that way for anyone, and fortunately, I didn't consider any of my options unacceptable. I *really* wouldn't want to opt for an induction to get a particular caregiver. I suppose I would at least go have a consultation with the midwives. Who knows? You might totall fall in love with them and then it would be a win-win except for the commute.
Best wishes, Ericka
