As a TV watcher, I can tell you birth on TV, particularly sit-coms, is portrayed in an idiotic manner and most births don't happen in the hospital because it's more entertaining to deliver in an elevator or a veterinary office (Daphne on Frasier, how dumb was that?). Even if it is in the hospital, it's ridiculously quick and it was a mad rush to make it there on time. No laboring for hours, fetal monitors, pitocin, etc. Quick run-down of some dumb TV births-pregnancies off the top of my head:
The birthmom on Friends who didn't know she was having twins. Oh wait! There's one more! Since I am pg with twins, I can tell you that unless you have no prenatal care or are very unaware, it's pretty hard not to know you are having twins. I can feel both of my babies' heads and movement on both sides.
Again on Friends - Phoebe being pg with triplets and never having bedrest and not delivering early. Can't remember what her birth was like. At least with Rachel, she was in labor and sat around the hospital for hours.
The Young and the Restless (my soap, go ahead make fun!) Tracy gave went into labor at home and had the baby on the living room floor, buttisted by her husband.
The West Wing - When Andie went into labor, it was all "ooh, I'm in labor!" and mad rush to the hospital.
OK, I'm sure there are more, but that's all I can think of right now.
