We started doing the "naughty spot" technique after watching Supernanny, and I really do think it works. Taylor's mind really got blown when we spent a few nights in a hotel in SF a few weeks ago, and the Naughty Spot followed us there! I had to explain to her that the Naughty Spot follows us where ever we go. I don't wait to start the clock until she's calmed down though -- as long as she stays on her chair, I don't pay attention to her tantrums. And she does tantrum. But, I also later talk to her about the Naughty Spot, and explain to her that she can't scream and cry every time. This last time I needed to use it, she screamed for about half the time, then just whimpered and cried for mama for the rest of it. I think she's getting it. She's generally good enough most of the time that we only need to use it periodically in the afternoons, but not every day -- sometimes only once a week or so. But, she understands the consequences now, and if she's acting up, I can say, "Taylor, we don't do x. If you do x again, you're going to go into the Naughty Spot. Do you want to go into the Naughty Spot?" She'll say no, so I say, "Okay, then don't do x any more." And she won't. But if she does, she immediately goes into the spot. --
