CY

I think it has nothing to do with your perhaps delivering early (unless you think your dates are way off). Lots of women with bigger funal measurements produce normal or small sized babies, so I doubt it has much to do there either. It's more likely to be the baby in a position that makes you bump out more or measurement error or something like that.

Yeah, but if you *do* have an u-s, think of the possible costs. What if they start thinking the baby is big? Then you're on greased skids toward an induction or elective c-section or all manner of other interventions based on data that are probably crap. Or maybe they'll think the baby is small and you'll be bucking for another set of interventions. The question is whether this is likely to be anything that is dangerous and needs fixing. Most likely, it isn't. If I were you, I'd wait until your next appointment. If you've got several significantly large measurements by then, I'd discuss the possible causes and see if there's any other evidence to support any particular theory (e.g., what's the baby's position? is it one likely to make you look larger?). If there's a worry about excess fluid, that might be worth checking into, but if you go that route, I would insist that they not measure the baby for size. You can't unring that bell. Even if the baby is big, your best bet is to attempt a spontaneous privatesl birth anyway and use all appropriate strategies for successful privatesl birth, and only go to a c-section if that doesn't work. Once you or your caregiver think the baby might be big, every little bump in the road is going to be attributed to the "fact" that the baby is big, even though in all likelihood it would be something that could be worked through.
