at full term it can be +-- 2 pounds.. and ultrasound is the least accurate method, anyways, for determining fetal weight before delivery. If you want a closer guess...ask your midwife-doctor how big they think the baby is next time they feel your belly. =)
Size is not only not a determining factor of when you will go into labor.. it also is not a determining factor as far as development. Size does not equal development....
*smile* The good news is that size of the baby has little to do with how the labor is going to go, too...
I understand your nervousness...you're heading into new territory and, like with a first time mom, the unknown can be scary. the problem is that you are looking for answers in which aren't really there to be found. Having an ultrasound isn't likely to help your anxiety, as it won't provide the answers your looking for, nor the rebutturances. And being a wimp..you're stronger than you think. =) And most people who have birthed a 6 pound baby as well as birthed a 9+ pound baby usually say that there is little difference between the two. Is it going to hurt? Yup. But it's probably not going to feel any different regardless of baby's weight... (like someone once said to me, "difference in a 7 pounder and a 9 pounder....isn't 2 pounds of head or shoudlers! That's just 2 pounds of 'squish'..and I can do squish!" *lol* I loved that...)
