Morning sickness nighmare... 74

I'm so sorry your wife is feeling so awful. This sounds exactly like me, from about 6 weeks until about 14, and I really sympathize.

Most of the standard remedies (real ginger ale, crackers, etc.) just didn't work for me. The only thing that kept the vomiting to a minimum was keeping food in my stomach basically all the time, which meant I was grazing all day. That, and I let myself eat whatever food I could think of without making me feel worse. No stress about healthy eating (or the inevitable weight gain from eating constantly) until I felt better. I also couldn't swallow my prenatals, as they set off my gag reflex; if this is a problem for your wife, at least make sure she's taking a folic acid supplement.

When I was pg with my twin daughters, I took Zofran and felt better, although still not great. Even the Zofran didn't help at all this time around. I wish I had a magic cure, but it's just awful. Sleep is a good thing, as much as possible. Oh, and eating dairy (ice cream or yogurt, for me) before bed sometimes helped stave off the nausea when I woke up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night.

I also had to stop brushing my teeth with toothpaste, because the foam made me sick, so I would just use Listerine and scrub with a toothbrush and water as well as I could. Sneezing and coughing both set off vomiting, as did strong smells (even ones I used to like), so avoiding those things as much as possible may help.

merr1 I haven't had morning sickness quite so badly, but the only thing that works when I'm nauseated is to eat. It takes a lot of willpower to eat when you feel like...

All my sympathy, and many wishes for her sickness to end soon.
