Here's what worked for me to eliminate night time feedings. I feed DD at 7:00 before she goes to bed. I wake her up to feed her again at 10:00 - 11:00 before I go to bed. She used to wake up in the middle of the night for another feeding. She woke up at the same time every night. When she started to cry I would go to her room and comfort her for 15 minutes before feeding her. After 2 nights of that, she started waking up 15 minutes later. Then I delayed the feedings by another 30 minutes, until I got the nighttime feeding to 6:00am. I never let her cry alone, I always comforted her. It took about about a week to break the habit. She's had the occasionally relapse but I blame it on a growth spurt and I just feed her if she wakes up hungry in the middle of the night. It rarely happens. If she doesn't eat well in the daytime for some reason then I will feed her if she wakes up in the middle of the night. It happens only about once every 2 months. I started this when she was 4 months old and 14 pounds - that's when some book (and I don't remember which one) said that a baby was physically capable of making it through the night without a feeding. DD is healthy and robust, I wouldn't have done it if she was sick or underweight.
