I would tend to agree - I've seen something similar happen with my niece, where her Dad thought it would be a nice treat to give her chocolate milk for a change, except of course she loved it and then demanded it on a regular basis and would happily drink it all day long instead of eating proper food. They eventually stopped buying it at all and she got used to the idea of drinking plain water but how they wished they had never gone down that road in the first place! I'm not saying that I think you should *never* give your dd juice but little ones aren't very familiar with the idea of moderation* and it's very easy to get into the habit of doling it out on a regular basis for an easy life until it *does* start to interfere with a healthy diet.
I'm actually thinking about this myself just now, as I've just decided to try and avoid giving juice to my dd at all at home, as I don't want end up fighting over it somewhere down the line. She does get it at nursery and I briefly considered asking them to stop but I've decided it probably isn't worth fighting about (and I'm not 100% sure they'd remember all the time anyway). At least this way, I know she's not "missing out" on it but her intake is limited (she only goes three days a week).
While we're on the subject, could anyone give me a quick bit of advice (sorry if this is bad netiquette)? I'm still breastfeeding dd mornings, nights and after work on nursery days (she gets formula during the day at nursery), with an extra feed on the days I have her at home but should I be giving her additional drinks now for hydration purposes and, if so, what? Formula or water?
