I think your husband is unreasonable. I don't believe open contradiction in front of the kids is good since it confuses them. You need to talk to your husband in private not to let small petty things spoil the whole fun and prevent possible arguments in front of the kids and let them lost respect of their parents.
I was on the same boat, and here is my little story that bug me for some time.
When son was 2.5 yrs old, His favorite was bed time story. One day, ran out of his books, he picked up a love story book (his mother favorite,) written in different language, gave it to me. I read to him anyway, knowing he didn't understand it, I added a little humor in my tone. Son realized it, he laughted so much even he didn't understand a bit. He was silent and anticipated when I started a sentence and cracked up like firework when I concluded the sentence. He had his fun for the day. His mother felt offended as if I intended to offend her to make fun of her favorite book and screamed at son to stop laughing. He was in shock, his laugh turned in to a cry in silence with tear in his eyes. I was both shocked and angered, tried hard to stay cool, went to sleep with heavy heart. His mother realized her mistake, tried to mimic my tone reading her book to him few days later, son turned cold and became disinterested.
OK, I want to bed with a light heart, now.
