I dont remember having to check in much at all growing up except to tell my mom if I was changing locations.. For instance I lived less then a block from my school from First grade- the begining of 4th grade.. If I was at the park at the school ground we would run home and say "hey mom can we go to X's house?" then when we decided that was it we would go back home and pick the next activity.. one of my favorite things there was riding to the local fair grounds and patting the horses.. I dont recall doing more then checking in to tell my mom where we would be.
In Moultonboro things where more spread out but at 11 I lived closer to town and we had SOME restrictions at the time due to neighbors and their own issues, that just ment no boy-girl combo allowed alone at anytime.
I figured if we still lived here in 2-3 years bonnie would be allowed to play in the yard alone and then maybe in another year after walk to the park.. certainly by 11 more self dirrected play with some checking in.
