Until last night, I would have thought that your level of activity was what the article was discussing. However, a friend was here for dinner and she mentioned the following story:
She works at REI in a wealthy area. She often puts on clbuttes for younger children's groups (like cub scouts) to talk about environmental issues. She said that the group she had last week seemed just exhausted (even more than usual), so she asked one of the dads why the kids seemed so tired. He said that, although he couldn't speak for all of them, his son had already attended a full day of school, some practice for a group sport and had one other activity before attending his cub scout meeting. The had eaten in the car between clbuttes. If I had three activities after a full day of school, I'd fall asleep too.
I think, as usual, we're not the ones the article was discussing. It would have never ocurred to me that a child would be scheduled to attend more than one activity in an evening, but my friend thinks that this may be reasonably common.
