This doesn't work. If you summon near an edge the portal will just appear on the edge, and therefore the person will arrive on the edge as well. Nothing says they can't just walk off if they don't get their bearings before heading out though... :)

You can summon people to the bottom of the ocean. Often the lag you get on the loading screen is long enough that you will have watered by the time control is returned to you. Even if they make the transition quickly, be sure to be deep enough that they will not live long enough to reach the surface. :) Tip: The destination of a summons is stated clearly in the prompt box. The wary will be sure to read this. If the destination is The Great Sea you might want to decline. :)

I haven't experimented with this much but the next thing I'd like to try is summoning on the edge of the aggro radius of a powerful mob. Just close enough that when the summonee arrives they've got aggro, while you are safe. Speaking of which...

I had a low level guildie once bug me to summon him to Un'Goro Crater. He needed Essence of Fire and he'd heard he could get them there. Never mind the fact the mobs were 20 levels higher than he was. I tried to explain this (rather half-heartedly, it must be said) but eventually relented. Needless to say he had a rough time living long enough to hearth home. :)
