My warlock (now 39) is fast becoming one of my favorites. I try to focus on mobs 3 levels higher when soloing. I don't pbutt on 4 levels higher if I'm sure of no adds.
I have the felhunter and below. The VW is still my number one choice for solo. I am afliction mainly. I have 4 DoTs. I love the siphon life to replanish my life tap. By the time a mob 2 levels over me dies, I'm nearly full mana and full health and ready for more. for mobs 3 or 4 levels higher than me, I may need to use my VW's heal spell.
I haven't really found much use for the butt-slapper other than BG, but then I go with the FH.
The 4 dots in order I use are: Corruption, Agony, (life tap myself), siphon, then Immolation. I will replenish the corruption and begin wand. The level 3 mobs will probably come to me after a couple wand shots, but they are about dead. The corruption and immolation are short duration DoTs while life tap is the longest. I try to coordinate them to end at around the same time. All are instant casts except immolation. The corruption takes talent points to be instant.
